Amber Nesbitt, JD.

Amber built and led the Sexual Allegations Unit (SAU) for the Chicago Public Schools Office of Inspector General, the nation's only independent investigative body with jurisdiction over a broad range of sexual misconduct complaints involving K-12 staff and students.

As Deputy Inspector General for over six years, she supervised 30+ investigators, attorneys, and support staff handling over 450 complaints annually. Known for steady leadership and creative problem-solving, she developed customized strategies to manage high case volumes with limited resources, always prioritizing compliance, investigative excellence, and student safety.

In August 2024, she was appointed Interim Inspector General by Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, overseeing the General Investigations and Performance Analysis Units in addition to leading the SAU. In that role, she managed 55 staff members, navigated complex legal issues, and addressed media inquiries on high-profile cases.

Earlier in her career, Amber was a partner at a law firm specializing in high-stakes antitrust, employment-based sexual harassment, and consumer fraud litigation, and later served as General Counsel for three affiliated companies.

She earned her B.A. from the University of Michigan and her J.D., magna cum laude, from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. In 2023, she became a Certified Inspector General from the Association of Inspectors General and holds certifications in Investigation Report Writing, Investigations, Advanced K-12 Training, and Title IX Administrator Certification.
